New Laws of Knowledge Motion via Twitter

Twitter is a way to send messages across platforms (SMS,IM,Web) to groups of people who can choose to subscribe to follow your musings. I found this interesting post on the iCommons blog (iCommons is an upcoming summit focussed on keeping the internet open and free) where the author uses the Newton's laws of motion as an example of how to reach 3 billion people with 138 characters of educational content and suggests 'new laws of knowledge motion'.

It is a stunning new truth of our time that the laws of motion have changed for knowledge. What is known by humankind can move from person-to-person across the planet at the speed of light. Knowledge can move in showers of messages from a single person to myriad more. And those who receive it can answer back and comment to each other. The new laws of motion will let us spread the exchange of knowledge into a twittering global commons.

I've been playing around with Twitter and was thinking it is a disruptive technology to the for fee messaging services starting to be used in the financial markets and elsewhere for instant k sharing. It's great to find a kindred mind already thinking of education potential.

BBC First Broadcast in Second Life (yawn)

bigyawn.jpg

The BBC show Money has done a piece on the Second Life economy and will broadcast it on tv and in-world on Friday, June 1 which represents their first in-world broadcast according to their press release here.

While I'm encouraged that the BBC continues to experiment, and that this story will probably be more 'serious' as it is on a business show versus the usual "joe is a (insert job here) by day, but by night he (insert shocking activities here)" the BBC could have been much more bold.

They could have created and broadcast the show in-world rather than flying to San Francisco to interview Linden Labs CEO for a start. It's not fair for me to comment further until I have seen it myself tomorrow so stay tuned...

Great to see WiFi on a train finally in London, and available for a 10 minute fee (the ride is only 15 minutes so buying an hour doesn't make much sense). However, at 15 quid for the ride, I think they could give me free wifi. Live Free...Ride Connected

The camera rocks but is too slow for those 'OMG take a picture of THAT!' moments. The GPS was fun to play with but once leaving the 'all you can eat' confines of the UK it and web browsing had to be limited due to 3 pounds per meg rates - 7 in other EU countries! Fickr has made it easy to email photos to post to this blog whereas moveable type hasn't...
